I calculated the consensus a bit differently this time. Instead of using raw site rankings I isolated the position and reranked each list P1-P150 depending on how many pitchers were included. This gives us a clearer comparison and eliminates some of the variance due to ranking styles and brands. Prospect lists incorporated include Fangraphs, Fantrax, MLB.com, Prospects1500, Prospects Live, and Prospects Worldwide. Players have to appear on multiple lists to be considered for these rankings.

No huge surprises here but there rarely are at the top. Six of the top ten pitchers have already made their MLB debut. Manning was ranked everywhere from 3rd (Fantrax) to 20th (Prospects Live). Whitley ranged from 5th to 21st (Prospects Live). Kopech would have been higher if not for being 23rd on Prospects Worldwide’s list (and for good reason). I’m a Grayson Rodriguez fan but wasn’t expecting him to crack the top ten.

I’m a bit surprised to see three 2020 draftees in the top 15 considering they haven’t pitched a professional inning or many innings at any level since the 2019 season. All three were included in at least one top ten. Meyer was ranked everywhere from 7th to 27th (Prospects Live). Feels like I may have punished him a bit too much for his stature in my rankings considering he’s the same height as two of the players in the top ten. That’s what I get for body shaming. Prospects Live was by far the highest on Logan Gilbert (6th). Skubal was top 17 on every list except Prospects Worldwide, who ranked him 27th. Fangraphs was the lowest (30) on Lodolo. Cabrera cracked Prospect Live’s top ten pitchers. Fantrax listed Gray 39th, 15 spots behind the next lowest ranking.

Brendan McKay is inexplicably ranked as the fourth pitcher and 12th overall on MLB.com’s list. He’s much lower everywhere else. Prospects Worldwide lists him as their #57 pitching prospect. Speaking of PWW they’re also by far the highest on George Kirby, ranking him as their sixth pitcher. Kirby was not listed among Fangraphs’ top 100 prospects. They also rank Clarke Schmidt ten spots behind any of the other sites at 39. Liberatore is in the top 20 on three lists but 45th on Prospects Live’s. Deivi Garcia is Fangraphs’ 12th ranked pitcher but Fantrax lists him at 48. He’s always been divisive due to his height. Fantrax is also the only list to include Brailyn Marquez in their top 20. Baz expectedly had a large variance in rankings due to differing opinions concerning his future role.

Puk still made two top-15 appearances. PWW had the lowest ranking with 60th. Balazovic checked in at 22nd on The Board at Fangraphs. Fantrax lists Mick Abel as their 20th best pitching prospect, considerably higher than the other outlets. Neither Abel or Crochet cracked Fangraphs’ top 100 overall prospect list. Espino got a big boost fom PWW, who ranked him 19th. Triston McKenzie cracked Prospects Live’s top 20. Jackson Kowar and Tahnaj Thomas were torpedoed by Fantrax listing them as the 54th and 56th pitching prospects. Fangraphs listed Tahnaj as their 26th pitcher.

MLB.com is by far the highest on Detmers with a ranking of 26. Jackson Rutledge was ranked everywhere from 25th (PWW) to 62nd (Prospects1500). Cade Cavalli is between 40-44 on every list that went that deep except P1500, which listed him 61st. They’re also significantly lower on Bryce Jarvis (64) than the other lists used. Fangraphs ranked Jhoan Duran 20+ spots higher than any outlet at 18 (and I love it). Prospects Live nuked Matt Allan’s consensus ranking by slotting him at 78 (24 spots lower than anyone else). Fantrax lists Houck as their #82 pitching prospect, 36 spots behind the next lowest ranking.
